The eye watering and noxious smell of ammonia in your barn is more than just a nasty smell it is also a health risk to your animals, poultry and staff.

Even low levels of ammonia can cause upper respiratory tract problems in horses, but can also put them at risk for pneumonia and other serious illnesses.

The smell of ammonia has always had the implication that the facilities were not hygienic but there is a health risk at prevalent levels. Respiratory irritants can become major and costly health issues

When a horse urinate in its stall, the urine seeps through bedding and into stall mats or deep bedding. Bacteria feed on the nutrients in the urea and produce ammonia, a noxious gas that rises and is inhaled by your horse.

At best, the acid creates an unpleasant smell, at worst it damages tissue in the horse's respiratory tract and affects sensitive mucus membranes. This can possibly result in pneumonia, heaves or COPD. Foals are particularly susceptible to the damaging effects of ammonia as their respiratory system is immature and they spend a lot of time lying in stall bedding. Dr. Frederick Harper, extension horse specialist for the University of Tennessee indicates that "about 15% of all foals have severe respiratory disease before they reach the end of their first year. Horses that are recovering from injury are also more exposed to ammonia toxic fumes when they lie in stall bedding and due to the longer periods of time inside on stall rest.

Ammonia can be somewhat controlled with proper bedding, thorough cleaning and good ventilation but it is not removed. That is why the use of drySTART will decrease the ammonia by absorbing and drying the area, reducing ammonia and reducing the risk to your horses and staff.

Studies have been performed indicating that 75% of horses kept on bedding without ammonia-reducing compounds suffered inflamed pharynxes (area between the mouth and esophagus)

Hydrated and barn lime have been age-old remedies to combat ammonia smell but are mostly ineffective or caustic and hazardous.

drySTART, an all natural drying agent, is effective, natural and safe to use while capturing and removing the ammonia smell. drySTART captures, neutralizes and eliminate harmful ammonia odors naturally, not just covering up the odor with a perfume or masking scent.

For use in all animal environments.  Horses, Goats, Sheep. Llama, Poultry, Dogs, Cats, Cattle.
