The benefits of flaxseed for horses includes bringing the omega 3 to omega 6 ratio back into balance, weight gain, seasonal allergy support, skin and coat health, and overall wellness.
Horses can be fed anywhere from 2 to 16 ounces (1 pound) of flaxseed per day depending on the desired results. It is very common to provide a mid-range amount of 1/2 to 1 cup of flaxseed (equivalent to 3 to 6 ounces) daily.
Flax seed has a very strong outer seed coat. For horses and other animals to properly digest the product must be milled before feeding.
Whole flax seed is by special order.
